Instructions

Identify the line you want to move. Refer to the wiring schematics of the house if the wires run through the walls. Make sure you note all the terminals related to the wire in subject, from the circuit breaker to the appliance including any other wires that tap power from it. Normally there is only one wire, the live wire, which leads power away from the circuit breaker to the appliance and one that leads back to the panel which is the neutral.

    • 2

Turn all the power off before performing any actions on an electric circuit. Switch the power off from the main circuit breaker panel to prevent any accidents during the wire transfer.

    • 3

Use your screwdriver to loosen the terminal screws holding the wires in place at each end. In most cases, the wires are passed through pipes running through the house walls, floors or ceiling from the circuit breaker panel to respective appliances. Pull the wires from one end of the pipes if installed in this manner. If the wire is held in place along walls or structural members by wire clips remove the clips.

    • 4

Prepare the new path for the wires. Install new pipes for the wires running through the designated path. You may want to consult a plumber to help you in installing the pipes.

    • 5

Pass the wires through the new path and make sure they reach all the intended terminals. Replace any short wires if necessary. Strip the tips of any new wires so they connect to the terminals properly. Insert the ends of the wires into the respective terminals depending on the color of their insulation. Black or red is for hot wires, neutral wires are insulated in white while ground wires are in green and yellow or bare.
