Located at O'Donnell Park, the World War I Memorial in Atlantic City is a Greek-style rotunda structure. This monument was built in 1922 in honor of the U.S. veterans who fought in World War I. In 1981, the Memorial was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The interior of the World War I Memorial features a bronze stature of a naked Lady Liberty with a sword. The Memorial is open year-round for visitors.
The John Basilone Monument is in the city of Raritan, which is in New Jersey's Skylands region. This monument was built in honor of John Basilone, a World War II marine sergeant who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at Guadalcanal. Basilone was killed in action during the Iwo Jima campaign. The statue depicts Basilone carrying a heavy machine gun. The monument was erected in 1948 and features a Congressional Medal of Honor citation at the monument's base.
Completed in 1922, the Princeton Battle Monument was built in honor of the Battle of Princeton during the American Revolutionary War. This battle pitted of George Washington's colonial troops against the British forces. The base of the monument features a statue of Washington riding his horse. The monument is approximately 50 feet tall and made from stone. The Princeton Battle Monument is at the intersection of Stockton Street and Bayard Street, across from Princeton University.
One of the newest Garden State monuments is the "To the Struggle Against World Terrorism" monument at the two-acre Harbor View Park in Bayonne, New Jersey. Erected in 2006, this monument was built by Russian sculptor, Zurab Tsereteli, in honor of the victims of the World Trade Center attack on September 11th, 2001. The monument is a 100-foot tall bronze block with a suspended granite teardrop fixture in the middle of the monument. Harbor View Park is at The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.
New Jersey's Fireman's Monument is in the city of Hoboken, located at Church Square Park. This monument features an eight-foot bronze statue of a fireman at the top of a 20-foot stone base. The base features an emblem with two fire ladder, a firehose and two crossed pike poles. Fireman's Monument's base is surrounded by an iron gate and floral arrangements. This monument was erected in 1891 in commemoration of the Volunteer Fire Department of Hoboken.
