With the intention of promoting "the cultural heritage of Egypt," the Supreme Council of Antiquities operates under the direction of Egypt's Ministry of Culture. It is the organization charged with the primary responsibility of both conserving and restoring Egypt's ancient monuments, such as the Karnak Temple, the Pyramids of Giza, Abu Simbel, and myriad ancient monuments located throughout the country. SCA also works with the Getty Conservation Institute to protect the ancient monuments in the Valley of the Queens.

The European Heritage Network is a public information source provided by the Council of Europe regarding the protection of ancient monuments throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Representing countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and even Greece, the network offers information about laws that govern the protection of ancient monuments, such as tax exemption breaks for governments, associations or even people that preserve ancient monuments -- the country of Cyprus provides income tax rent relief, for example. Other countries such as Switzerland and Germany also provide similar legislation.
