The Magnolia State, Mississippi, borders the eastern side of Louisiana. At a population of approximately 12,000, Magnolia is the largest city in this collection of Arkansas-Louisiana border counties.
The entire western border of Louisiana rests against most of Texas's eastern border. From north to south, Lone Star State counties bordering Louisiana include Cass, Marion, Harrison, Panola, Shelby, Sabine, Newton, Orange and Jefferson Counties. A large portion of the Texas-Louisiana border is formed by the Toledo Bend Reservoir, a 181,600-acre lake; this lake is in the Texas counties of Sabine and Newton. These counties are also home to Sabine National Forest. The largest city in a Texas-Louisiana border county is Port Arthur, which resides in Jefferson County.
Southern Louisiana is the only region of the state without a neighboring state; this region of Louisiana meets the Gulf of Mexico. The southernmost parishes in Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico -- from east to west -- are Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Jefferson, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. Mary, Iberia, Vermilion and Cameron. The largest city in Louisiana's southernmost parishes is New Orleans.
