A Fill-in Activity on Thank You Notes for Kids

Creating thank you notes can be an activity that promotes literacy in young children. With a simple set of supplies, children can draw and create different types of cards. Parents can also buy pre-made cards and ask children to fill them in with different types of art. Either method provides the child an opportunity to be creative while thinking about the person receiving the card.
  1. Photograph Collages

    • Photographs can be used by children to add interest to a plain thank you card. Parents should print out small versions of different family photographs and ask the child to use glue to stick these onto the card and label them. Different scrap booking supplies such as ribbon and stickers can also be used to enhance the photograph collage.

    Verses of Poetry

    • Children can improve their writing skills by using creative writing on the thank you cards. Parents should provide the child with a simple topic and ask the child to write a small poem addressed to the recipient in the card. A very young child can be asked to write fun rhyming words all over the card.

    Bead Crafting

    • Bead crafts help teach children patience and creativity. Provide the child with glue and beads in different colors. Ask the child to draw a simple picture, such as a flower, on the cover of the thank you card and then have her fill in the picture with different colored beads. The card should be left overnight to dry.

    Felt Figures

    • Parents should cut pieces of felt in different colors into circles and different sized rectangles. Ask the child to create felt figures by gluing different pieces of felt onto the card. The felt figures can represent different members of the family. Use beads to represent eyes, noses and mouths.
