Identify issues that need to be addressed by both the community and those in political office. Do this by noting the things that people are talking about the most such as security, better governance, poverty, elections or gender issues.
Gather information about one or more related current issues. Read the news and books and begin talking face-to-face with people in your community, workplace or school. Interact with political office holders such as mayors and congressional members for opinions on issues you are keen about.
Log onto social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and blogs to disseminate information. Invite people to your social network to discuss current issues and to find ways in which they can create change. Invite political activists and political office holders to discuss pertinent issues.
Create petitions that target a specific political issue and encourage people to get involved in this issue. Use sites such as Go Petition to create petitions relevant to your cause. Disseminate electronic petitions through social networking sites and distribute paper petitions in places such as schools, parking lots and shopping centers.
Request radio or TV stations to air you and your group on one of their shows. Prepare your pitch by writing down the issue you want to talk about -- the message you want to spread. Provide information about yourself and how your group was formed. Present this information to the producers of the TV or radio station.
Organize political meetings in your community by inviting people through the mass media such as radio, TV or through social networking sites. Hold indoor or outdoor meetings to discuss current issues and ways in which people can get involved. Bring in a speaker who is knowledgeable about the issues being discussed.
