How to Make Designs With Text

Organizations and businesses use text designs to create company logos

and/or brand names. Text designs appear on T-shirts, uniforms, letterheads and official websites. A well-designed text helps distinguish the organization every time it appears. Basic knowledge on how to use Photoshop and sketch up enables you to create your custom text design.

Instructions

    • 1

Install your computer with sketch up and adobe Photoshop software. Download the software online.

    • 2

Create a new file in sketch up. Select the text tool from the toolbar; it appears as an "A" in uppercase. Click on the blank canvas and a dialog box appears.

    • 3

Select your font and extrusion depth. Type your text in the dialogue box.

    • 4

Position your text on the canvas. Click on the "Q" key for the rotate tool. Click on the edges of your text and rotate it to the position of your design.

    • 5

Hit the "O" key for the orbit tool and orbit the word to a front view. Type "V" to open the selection tool. Use the selection tool to expand the letters individually. Click on each letter twice to separate the letters.

    • 6

Put shadows by clicking on "Display Shadows." Try out different shadows until you achieve the desired effect.

    • 7

Export the image to Photoshop as a jpg file. Refine the edges with the pen tool. Highlight your text and select a fill in color and texture. Erase the color in the spaces in between the letters to distinguish the text from the background.

    • 8

Create a solid layer over the back background and apply a gradient overlay. Load in the spectrums on the overlay and pick one that achieves the background you desire.

    • 9

Change the appearance of the text with lighting effects. Try out different effects to give your text a realistic effect. Save your text as an image to use in different media.
