How to Write Out the Chemical & the Word Equation for Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the conversion of light energy in the form of sunlight to sugar. Specifically, the process involves the conversion of six molecules of carbon dioxide and six molecules of water to one molecule of glucose (i.e. sugar) and six molecules of oxygen. This entire process occurs inside of plants, and the resulting glucose molecules are converted to chemical energy that plants need to survive. The process can be written as a chemical or word equation by following several short steps.

Instructions

    • 1

      Write out the following for the chemical equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O --> C6H12O6 + 6O2.

    • 2

      Write "sunlight energy" under the arrow on the chemical equation.

    • 3

      Write out the following for the word equation: Carbon dioxide + Water --> Glucose + Oxygen

    • 4

      Write "sunlight energy" under the arrow on the word equation.
