Communicate the rules and policies about the acceptable conduct to the participants. Explain what the consequences or discipline methods for violation are. Remember to keep the rules and expectation fair and non-discriminatory toward any of the target audience.
Prepare a behavior record chart by creating a table with a column with titles such name of the participant, time of unacceptable behavior or action, nature of behavior and type of discipline method administered. Fill in this information immediately after the behavior and discipline method is applied.
Create a method of monitoring the participants' behavior after the discipline method is administered. Do this through observation to give you first-hand information about behavior change and reaction to the discipline method. Utilize automated behavior management systems such as "Behaviour Log" to monitor behavior patterns and discipline strategies that are administered.
Create a list of criteria for what an effective discipline system should be. Include in the list aspects such: does the system of discipline method promote correct behavior? Does it inflict self discipline, self esteem and dignity? Is it possible to enforce?
Plan a target baseline for behavior that will show you (evaluator) whether a discipline method is working or not. Do this by establishing the unacceptable behavior, the acceptable behavior, and the method of discipline that will be used to reinforce this behavior. Observe if the method of discipline is expediting the unacceptable behavior toward the targeted baseline of acceptable behavior. (See ref 4)
Carry out the evaluation by conducting one-on-one interview with the participants. Ask how the participants felt about the discipline method? Did they understand why they were being punished? Which method of discipline was preferable?
Compile the data from the behavior record log and from the interviews and compare these data to the list of criteria of discipline methods. See if the results from the record log and interviews are the same as the ones in the criteria list to assess the effectiveness of the discipline methods.
