How to Convert Kw to Amps

Kilowatts and amps are commonly used to measure the amount of current running through a system. The two measurements are related by the amount of energy per coulomb of charge, which refers to the voltage. Given the voltage, you can convert kilowatts to amps by following a relatively simple formula.

  Find out the voltage on the device or the system (it is usually listed) and write the number down.
- 2
  Convert kilowatts to watts by multiplying the number of kilowatts by 1,000. Record the value.
- 3
  Divide the number of watts by the the number of volts obtained in Step 1. The result is the amount of current running through the circuit in amps.
