What is concept education?
Concept education involves teaching students the core principles or 'big ideas' that underpin learning material. Teachers present students with complex concepts broken down into more readily accessible sub-sets which they then explore through enquiry-based tasks, research and practical demonstration. The goal is to develop a profound and sustainable understanding instead of rote memory recall. As well as the acquisition of knowledge, concept education focuses on the practical application of these principles and fosters higher-order analytical thinking skills for a deeper learning experience.
