Contact your local department of motor vehicle office (DMV) and request an application for a duplicate title. You can speed up the process by visiting the office in person and filling out the forms while you are there.
Take your vehicle identification number (VIN) with you. You can find the VIN number on the driver's side of your dash near the windshield. It is easiest to read this by looking through the windshield. You can also find the VIN number on your current registration. The registration should provide any information about the vehicle that is required for a duplicate title.
Fill out the form completely and double-check for any errors or missing information. Attach any required documentation.
Check the fee for a replacement title and include payment with your application.
Return the application to the appropriate office.
