How to Use a Breadbox

A breadbox is a container that is designed to store bread at room temperature. A breadbox can be made from wood, metal or plastic. A breadbox should have a door that seals tightly and ventilation holes that help to maintain the proper amount of moisture within the breadbox. Before refrigerators and freezers, homemakers used a breadbox to help keep their homemade breads fresh from week to week. A breadbox can still serve to keep breads fresh and can be an interesting addition to a kitchen countertop.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the breadbox on the counter in a place where it will be accessible by family members. Choose a location that will not block the ventilation holes of the breadbox.

    • 2

Remove the loaf of bread from any bags or outer wraps. It should be placed directly into the breadbox without wraps or bags.

    • 3

Place the bread onto a cutting board that is large enough to accommodate the loaf of bread and large enough to allow the bread to be sliced easily. Also make sure that the cutting board will fit into the breadbox.

    • 4

Insert the bread on the cutting board into the breadbox and close the breadbox to seal it.
