Visit bbc.co.uk/languages/french to reach the BBC's French learning resources page. Familiarize yourself with the links, which include "French Steps," a set of two different programs for French beginners; "Ma France," a program for intermediate-level speakers; and two different links to "The French Experience," sets of situational vocabulary.
Register for the "French Steps" program, which is free. Registering provides you with an easy-to-follow curriculum as well as reminder emails from the BBC. Alternately, you can use the "Steps" program without registering and work at your own pace. "Steps" allows you to view dialogue within an interactive slideshow in both French and English, and practice what you are learning. If you are an intermediate learner, begin with the "Ma France" program.
Click on "Talk French" to practice the basic French you have learned. This provides you with links to interactive activities that present you with a situation and ask you to respond to it. Repeat these exercises until you feel ready to progress.
Click on "Fr. Exp. Part 1" and "Part 2" to view situational vocabulary like getting around the city and eating out. You can watch, listen to and read these situations through Real Player.
Visit the "Cool French" and "Déjà Vu" links to expand your knowledge of French. "Cool French" provides varying levels of colloquial French that can be used in situations like arguments and drinking, while "Déjà Vu" lets you follow along with a play.
