    • Ingesting this medication can result in depression, agitation, hives, difficulty breathing, swelling in the face, tongue, lips and throat. Other side effects include stomach pains and gas, nausea, diarrhea and headaches.

    Warnings

    • This drug may cause allergic reactions in certain people. Omeprazole should not be taken if a person has liver or heart disease. A physician should be consulted before taking this drug.

    Considerations

    • This drug does not promote relief of heartburn and should not be taken for this reason. Omeprazole should not be taken if a person has trouble swallowing, frequent chest pains or has black or bloody stool.

    Dosing Information

    • Taking an improper dose of this medication can increase the likelihood of experiencing adverse side effects. This medication is taken for a variety of reasons. The usual dose for an adult is 20 to 40 mg taken one to two times a day per doctor's orders.
