How to Train Online to Speak English

English is spoken to some extent by one in five people around the world. Approximately 322 million people speak English as a native language. Since English is such a globally-used language, it is important to take advantage of the online tools available to help you improve your English speaking abilities.

      Join an online language exchange such as My Language Exchange or ITalki. Meet online via text and voice chat with a native English speaker who wants to learn your native language. Ask your language partner to correct your word choice, grammar,and pronunciation as you talk together. You may have to offer language lessons in your own mother tongue in order to take language lessons in English offered by other members of the language exchange.

      Listen to the news in English online. The BBC and Voice of America maintain English language sites for those who are new to the language. Follow along with written transcripts of stories as you listen to them, paying close attention to grammar, pronunciation and sentence structure.

      View movies in English online. Films or English language lessons are both available online for free. English Media Lab and English Video are two websites that offer free English language lesson videos. Watch the speakers' mouths when they are shown in the videos in order to better understand how a particular word is pronounced. Rewind and watch particular parts of the video again that you did not understand.

      Work with a hired private tutor or attend English lessons online. Find English tutors on the EduFire or ESL Teachers Board websites. Many other English tutors are available on other tutoring sites as well. A tutor or customized, small classes available from online tutoring companies can help you get past any plateau you have reached in your learning.
