How to Export a Data Table to XLS

Working in Microsoft Excel has advantages to using a standard database program. For one, you can perform calculations on numerical data. You can also format your Excel spreadsheet to look more aesthetically pleasing, an option that isn't always available in database software. If you want to perform calculations or special formatting tasks, export your current data table to XLS format. The Excel program is compatible with many database formats.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the Excel program and click "File" then "Open" (the shortcut is "CTRL + O").

    • 2

Select "All Data Sources" under the "Save as type" drop-down box. This displays all data tables available for exporting to Excel. Acceptable formats include MDB, ACCDB, ODC, DBC and MDE database files.

    • 3

Choose the database file that you want to open in Excel and then click "Open."

    • 4

Wait for the Excel program to process and convert the database file to Excel format. A dialog box may appear expressing a security concern regarding the data connection. If so, choose the option to "Enable" the data connection if you trust the file.

    • 5

View the transferred data tables in your XLS worksheet. The data records from the original database file transport over to cells in the Excel program.
