This tractor is available featuring one of two engines. The first engine is a Perkins diesel powered, liquid cooled, three-cylinder engine that offers a 153 cubic-inch displacement and 3.6 by 5.0-inch bore and stroke. The other engine option is a Continental gas powered, liquid cooled, four-cylinder engine that offers a 145 cubic-inch displacement and a 3.38 by 4.06-inch bore and stroke.
In 1976, both the gas powered and diesel powered models were tested for power outputs. The gas powered model offered 34.34 horsepower output and burned gas at a rate of three gallons per hour. This model produced 28.24 horsepower drawbar power. The diesel powered model offered 34.53 horsepower output and used fuel at a rate of 1.9 gallons per hour. This model offered 28.36 horsepower drawbar power.
Models with the Continental engine have a 3,840-lb. operating weight while models with the Perkins engine have a 4,000-lb. operating weight. The transmission system on the Massey Ferguson tractor offers six forward gears and three reverse gears.
