  1. Weights

    • Including all necessary components and a 70-foot boom, the Manitowoc 4100W crane weighs 356,660 lbs. The crawlers themselves each weigh 36,400 lbs. and the crane's car body weighs 49,500 lbs. This crane features three removable counterweights including a 41,900-lb. inner weight, 41,500-lb. middle weight and a 39,000-lb. outer weight. Boom inserts are available in 10-foot, 20-foot and 40-foot lengths; they weigh 2,000, 3,100 and 5,340 lbs., respectively.

    Power

    • Th 4100 crane features a standard Cummins model NTA-855 diesel engine. This is a six-cylinder engine that offers a 5.5-by-6-inch bore and stroke and an 855 cubic-inch displacement. The Cummins engine offers 333 net horsepower at 2,000 rpm. A GM model 12V-71N diesel engine was available as an option on this crane. This engine is a 12-cylinder engine that features a 852 cubic-inch displacement and a 4.25-by-6.50-inch bore and stroke. Net horsepower offered by this engine is 360 at 2,000 rpm.

    Lower Machinery

    • The crane's car body is made out of ribbed steel. An integral side wing system allows crawler extension and retraction and creates a lower center of gravity for the whole crane. A steel king pin provides a pivot point for the rotating upper works. This crane features cast steel crawler teeth and tumbler rims. Crawler tracks are made out of cast alloy steel. These tracks are connected to the crane with high-carbon steel pins.

    Upper Machinery

    • The rotating bed on the Manitowoc crane is made out of ribbed steel. This crane employs four front house rollers, two rear house rollers, two front hook rollers and four rear hook rollers. The Manitowoc 4100W features an alloy steel intermediate vertical swing shaft and vertical swing shaft. Swing locks are spring loaded, allowing for cushioned operation. This crane's automatic boom stop is designed to stop motion when the boom reaches its maximum angle of operation. With all necessary boom attachments, this crane can reach to a maximum height of approximately 300 feet.
