3D Flash Game Tutorial

One of the most fundamental operations in 3D games is giving objects the appearance that they are moving closer or farther away. A 3D object, such as a box, will appear closer if you make the box larger and position it near the bottom of the screen. It will appear farther away if you make the box smaller and position it higher up on the screen.

  1. Create a 3D Flash Game Room

      Start the Adobe Flash program. Click the "New" option from the "File" menu.

      Click the "ActionScript 3.0" option on the dialog box that appears to create a Flash file to create your Flash 3D game in. Press the "OK" button.

      Click the "line tool" in the drawing tool bar. Position your mouse cursor in the lower left hand corner of the drawing, depress your mouse button and draw a vertical line from the bottom of the Flash game stage to the top of the Flash game stage. Release your mouse button. Draw another vertical line of equal length on the right side of the flash game stage. Now connect the lower and upper endpoints of the vertical line such that a rectangle is formed.

      Using the line tool again, draw a another rectangle that has length and width dimensions that are one-half that of the first rectangle. Draw the rectangle such that it is roughly centered about the center of the first rectangle. Call the larger rectangle the front wall of the Flash 3D game room and the smaller rectangle the back wall of the Flash 3D game room

      Draw lines that connect the upper right vertex of the front wall with the upper right vertex of the back wall. Connect the remaining three corresponding vertexes of the rectangles together.

      Position your mouse cursor over frame 1 in the time line. Click your mouse button.

      Click the "rectangle tool." Position your mouse cursor near the center of the floor line and draw a square that has a width and length dimension of about one inch.

      Position your mouse cursor over frame 40 on the time line. Now click your mouse button. Click the "Timeline" option in the "Insert" menu. Now click the "Blank Keyframe" option.

      Use the "rectangle tool" to draw another square near the center of the back wall. Make this square about half the size of the first square.

      Position your mouse cursor over frame 20 in the time line. Click your mouse button. Now click the "Shape Tween" option in the "Insert" menu.

      Click "Test Movie" in the "Control" menu. Watch the square get smaller as it moves into the distance.
