How to Study the Life of European Explorers

The Age of Exploration refers to the struggle among European powers for dominance in the New World between 1400 and 1600. Famous explorers obviously existed prior to this time, Marco Polo perhaps being the most well known. But the the discovery of the New World, the revolution in navigational technology, military technology, and increasing economic need for new markets all contributed to the Age of Exploration. Another essential factor was the intellectual climate of the day. New discoveries and ideas in science and philosophy played a major role in inspiring the thirst for exploration.
