How to Become Fluent in Spanish as an English Speaker

Fluency in a foreign language is measured on four tasks. The ability to read, write, listen and speak the foreign language indicates a fluency in the language. English speakers who seek to become fluent in Spanish must concentrate on improving their abilities in these four areas. Concentrate on combining the abilities in different ways. English speakers who have never studied a foreign language may find the level of study needed to be daunting, but remaining dedicated to the task will show immediate results.

  Practice listening and speaking. Find a native Spanish speaker to practice conversation. Use Skype to speak face-to-face with your conversation partner if he doesn't live in your town.

  Practice reading and writing. Join a Spanish-language online forum. Create your own posts and respond to others' posts. Mimic the grammar and syntax used in other posts to formulate your own.
