Child development explains the development of children from conception to teenagers. This course will cover topics on how children adjust to their roles in society as well as how parents and adults play a part in a child's attitude and performance in social and educational functions.
This course gives an overview of early childhood education in today's culture. Topics discussed will include children's responsibilities in education as well as current events that affect children in public and private schools. Issues of ethics situations, identifying professional standards and recognizing professional early childhood organizations in the education field will be surveyed to help students prepare for their career paths in education.
At the end of this course, students will learn the principles associated with directing children in educational and early childhood settings. Students will understand how guidance, management and the environment affect children's learning and social behavior as they observe various classrooms ranging from toddlers in a daycare to 2nd grade in an elementary school.
Child, Family, Community and Culture examines the relationships of family, communities and influences within society and how they factor in to a child's development. Topics this course will cover include attachment among children and parents, understanding one's culture and social experiences within school and home environments.
Students will learn the process of teaching young children how to read and write through the use of appropriate reading and writing materials. The course will cover specific strategies to selecting the best books that are helpful for children's development as well as detecting signs of when a child is ready to begin the process of learning to read and write.
