      Find out how long the goals essay is to be before you start writing. Ask your teacher how many pages and/or words are required. Make sure you understand exactly what is being asked of you before you start.

      Start your goals essay early. Once your essay is assigned, develop a plan by which you will finish the essay at least a day early. Planning in this way will allow you to be able to still complete the goals essay if you have an emergency the day before it is due.

      Contemplate what things you would like to see happen in your life. Make a list of all the things you dream about doing or becoming. Decide which of the things on the list matters most to you. Circle the things that are most important to you. These are your goals.

      Write down your goals. Make a list of both short-term and long-term goals. Construct notes on how you plan to accomplish each goal you list.

      List your goals in the order you will write them in your essay. Outline your essay so that you know exactly what you will write in your essay.
