    • ATI Career Training Center is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and offers a personal training course of study that qualifies students for any of three certifications available from the National Academy of Sports Medicine; Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist or Performance Enhancement Specialist. It has 16 campus locations in Florida, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas and has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

    International Sports Science Association

    • The Better Business Bureau-accredited fitness education program at the International Sports Science Association offers 10 different personal trainer certifications including four levels of general personal trainer plus specialty certifications in areas such as nutrition, youth and elderly training. Programs are self-paced, but must be completed within two years. Active military and veterans may use their education benefits at the school. Students must have a 75 percent or better score and proof of an adult CPR certification to receive their credentials. Materials may be mailed in or submitted online. Certifications are valid for two years; 20 hours of continuing education courses must be taken during each two-year certification period. The classes are federally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

    National Federation of Professional Trainers

    • The National Federation of Professional Trainers offers an online or home-study distance learning personal trainer course and certification. Both courses are self-paced, but can be completed in an eight-week time frame. The American Council on Education awards three college credits for the program. The certification test may be taken at one of more than 300 testing center locations across the U.S. Specialty credentialing is available in the areas of nutrition, endurance and resistance training. Continuing education tuition is included in an annual renewal fee, which was $85 as of April 2010. The program can be paid for with interest-free financing.
