The nurse delegation program is designed for nursing assistants and allows them to perform a limited number of tasks in a variety of facility and home settings, including adult family homes. Nursing assistants who complete this program can administer prescription medications and conduct blood glucose monitoring. These tasks could previously only be performed by registered nurses.
The course is offered through distance education by many training facilities and requires nine hours of study to complete. The course is also available through in-class study in some areas, and requires 10 hours to complete. The program provides successful participants with continuing education credits upon completion of the course and successfully passing the nurse delegation for nursing assistants' examination.
Graduates of this short course may continue on to specialized nurse delegation courses, including a focus on diabetes course. The program is a three-hour distance education course that culminates in a written examination.
