How to Calculate EEO Statistics

Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) refers to a United States law that makes it illegal to discriminate against a person due to race, religion, gender, age or disability during the hiring process. This ensures that all job applicants are judged based solely on their qualifications and skill set. Calculating EEO statistics allows a company to determine the effectiveness of its EEO program. For our calculations, we will use the following data: Total employees = 80; female employees = 60; male employees = 20; African American employees = 30; Hispanic employees = 25; Asian employees = 15; and Caucasian employees = 10.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the following equation into your calculator (from our sample data in the Introduction):

      60 / 80 =

This gives you an answer of 0.75, or 75 percent, which is the total percentage of females at the company. You get this percentage by dividing the total number of females by the total number of employees.

    • 2

Subtract 75 percent from 100 percent and you get 25 percent, which is the percentage of males at the company.

    • 3

Type the following equation into your calculator (again, from our sample data):

      30 / 80 =

This gives you an answer of 0.375, or 37.5 percent, which is the total percentage of African Americans at the company.

    • 4

Type the following equation into your calculator (from our sample data):

      25 / 80 =

This gives you an answer of 0.3125, or 31.25 percent, which is the total percentage of Hispanics at the company.

    • 5

Type the following equation into your calculator (from our sample data):

      15 / 80 =

This gives you an answer of 0.1875, or 18.75 percent, which is the total percentage of Asians at the company.

    • 6

Type the following equation into your calculator (from sample data):

      10 / 80 =

This gives you an answer of 0.125, or 12.5 percent, which is the total percentage of Caucasians at the company.

    • 7

Check your percentages to ensure they add to 100 percent:

      37.5 + 31.25 + 18.75 + 12.5 = 100

Now you have the percentage of each race making up the entire company workforce.
