Technical Surveillance Countermeasures Training

The U.S. Department of Defense provides standards for training courses and certification of protection professionals in technical surveillance countermeasures, or TSCM. These professionals can range from the federal to the state and local level.
  1. Aim

    • TSCM training courses aim to train security professionals on the threat posed by modern surveillance techniques and how to counter them. The TSCM course offered by the World Institute for Security Enhancement, for example, aims to teach students how to design a defense against eavesdropping devices.

    Training

    • Courses train individuals in the techniques used in TSCM, including eavesdropping techniques using the telephone system and wiretapping techniques. TSCM courses are taught using a mixture of classroom and practical, hands-on learning techniques.

    Certification

    • Courses based on TSCM techniques can be used by protection professionals as continuing education credits for re-certification by groups such as the ASIS Certification Board. The U.S. Department of Defense is involved in reviewing accredited TSCM courses offered within the U.S.
