Ensure that you meet the North Carolina GED requirements before you begin to study. You must be a North Carolina resident, be officially withdrawn from high school for at least six months and be a minimum of 18 years old. High school graduates in North Carolina are not eligible to take the GED test.
Locate a GED study guide. You can purchase a variety of GED study guides at a local bookstore or on the Internet. Most public libraries in North Carolina also carry study guides and other materials that you can check out for free with a library card.
Take the self-administered GED pretest included in your study guide to reveal which areas of study on which you need to focus. The North Carolina GED test is divided into five parts -- Language Arts-Writing, Language Arts-Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. As of January 2011, a minimum score of 410 is required on each section of the exam in order to pass the test and receive your GED in North Carolina. The total minimum score for all five sections is 2250.
Enroll in and complete a GED class. GED classes are available at each of the 58 community colleges in North Carolina. Each community college also offers the test on specified dates and times. A GED course provides you with an instructor who can answer any questions, give you personal attention and suggest additional study methods tailored to your needs.
