Danish Language Resources

Whether you plan to travel in Denmark, do academic research with Danish documents or learn to speak Danish, you will need Danish language resources. People in Denmark, Greenland and the Faeroe Islands speak Danish, part of the Indo-European language family. Several Danish dialects exist, but the majority of Danes recognize standard Danish. A variety of resources will allow you to use Danish for whatever purpose you choose.
  1. Dictionaries

    • Use a Danish dictionary to help you find the Danish words that you want to use. A number of dictionaries, including Berlitz and the Langenscheidt Universal Dictionary of Danish, are available. You may obtain a copy the dictionary that you want at a bookstore that sells Danish books or through an online store that sells multilingual books. Online dictionaries provide Danish translations for travelers' needs, everyday usage or professional needs. Among these are the Alternative Danish Dictionary, Online English to Danish to English Dictionary and the Concise Danish Dictionary.

    Online Translator

    • Open an online translator to quickly translate a Danish word, phrase, sentence or larger selection to or from Danish. Google Translator allows you to translate a piece to or from Danish to any of 54 other languages. World Lingo provides online translation services to or from Danish to 33 other languages. Translation2 is an online translation service from English to Danish.

    Online Materials

    • Download online Danish learning materials that will give you access to the language resources that you need to function in Danish. Several language centers and programs are available. Berlitz Danish's all-audio format gives you the basic questions and expressions that you will need to make friends, eat out, find places and more. The accompanying booklet provides phonetic pronunciation and translation of the audio's words and phrases. Speak Danish offers a course that teaches you to pronounce common Danish words and phrases. Danish 101's materials introduces new students to Danish through phonetic pronunciation.

    Courses

    • Learn Danish by signing up for Danish lessons. Interactive teaching methods allow students to learn Danish with an individual instructor who will provide real-time experience for the student to begin speaking and understanding spoken Danish. Verbal Planet pairs students with tutors who will work with the student online to build the student's vocabulary and fluency. UB Language Consult provides online courses as well as on-site courses in Lolland, two hours north of Copenhagen for students of beginning, intermediate or advanced Danish.
