The Association for Operations Management (APICS) has provided operations training since 1957, and offers a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification with three learning options: self-directed, instructor-led or corporate group. The instructor-led courses are offered through the APICS network of local chapters, universities, colleges and corporations. The CSCP designation trains students in subjects such as production, inventory and the integration of operations within a company. Successful graduates are required to pass the CSCP exam prior to earning their certificate.
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) offers a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) program that requires three years of full-time supply management experience and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. For certification, students must also pass three CPSM exams: foundation of supply management, effective supply management performance and leadership in supply management. ISM provides the course materials needed for students to pass these exams, covering subjects such as contraction and negotiation, sourcing, forecasting, logistics, risk compliance, and product and service development.
Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., offers a 12-credit hour Supply Chain Management Certificate program with three delivery options: online, satellite and on campus. To earn the certificate, students must take the core courses of strategic supply management and transportation and logistics management, then choose another six credit hours from courses that include negotiation, survey of project management, advance team leadership, enhancing supplier cost performance and price productivity improvement.
The University of Tennessee in Knoxville has developed an Integrated Supply Chain Management program offered twice a year that consists of six 2 1/2-day courses. A certificate plaque is given to students who complete the six courses, but students who also pass all six exams will earn a Supply Chain Management certification. Course work includes classes in supply chain management strategy, demand management in the supply chain, logistics and operations in the supply chain, integrative supply chain experience and vested outsourcing.
