Identify the skills your want to teach. If, for instance, you are training pre-construction workers, focus on tasks such as excavating trenches and moving and positioning pipes in preparation for welding.
Focus your course on relevant skills. When working with pipeline construction workers, as an example, make sure they understand how to bend the pipe to fit the contours of the land. Develop sections of your course to applying primer, using protective coating and wrapping the pipe.
Demonstrate the skills the workers need to learn. Post-construction workers need to know how to replace the topsoil and to return the right-of-way to its original state, for instance.
Assist the maintenance, terminal and station workers to do their jobs by having your course include topics on performing preventive maintenance, monitoring pumping stations and repairing pipelines.
Model your course for pipeline workers on actionable skills. Show pipeline walkers how to patrol the underground line on foot or on horseback and teach them how to spot leaks, breaks in joints or washouts.
