Create a series of goals for your introduction by asking the following questions: "What do I want this introduction to accomplish?" "What is the best possible action that the participants could take after this presentation?" and "What can I do to encourage the participants to take that action?" Allow the answers to these questions to shape the information you put into your introduction and the format that you follow.
Select at least two ways to present the information to the participants. For example, choose to present the information verbally, with handouts, PowerPoint, presentation boards, webpage, Wiki, webinar or video conference.
Explain the history of NLP by telling the participants that Neuro Linguistic Programming was originally introduced as an approach to psychotherapy and counseling practices. It provided an overview of patterns of communication and how to read facial cues and understand language in ways that deepened the connection to and effectiveness with clients. It was later adopted by the self-help industry as a guide for life-coaches and other para-professionals in the mental health field.
Explain the major tenants of NLP. For example, inform participants that training in Neuro Linguistic Programming includes the study of elements of neurology, linguistics and behavior. The training covers many topics including: communication skills, body language, verbal and non-verbal communication, how to increase your sensory awareness, emotional states, remove unnecessary fears and phobias, empower and motivate yourself and others.
Present an overview of NLP training programs. If you plan to utilize NLP as a training within your organization, it would be beneficial to look over the many programs available online (see References) and integrate them into your presentation.
