How to Plug in Degrees on a Graphing Calculator

Graphing calculators are often used in the academic environment for math and science work. The specialized calculators can also do graphing, plotting and data analysis -- as well as evaluate expressions, execute instructions and plot graphs. Values are stored in memory and can be interpreted by the calculator in multiple ways, one of which is degrees. Expressed in minutes and seconds format, it's also sometimes called DMS.

Instructions

    • 1

Interpret the value as degrees and designate the degrees in the DMS format by pressing the button labeled "2nd" -- which provides for the alternative button function -- and "Angle."

    • 2

Check the screen. You should see "Angle" followed by "1: °," the first option---Degree Notation.

    • 3

Set the Angle mode to "Degree." Calculators are all a little bit different but on the Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus, choosing the first option sets the value as "Degree Notation;" the second option sets "DMS Minute" notation, the third option sets "Radian" notation and the fourth option displays as "degree/minute/second." You can also use the degree symbol "°" to designate an angle, or list of angles as degrees.
