How to Use Toothpaste to Fix Disks

The idea of cleaning a scratched CD with toothpaste seems ridiculous at first glance. This method works by sanding the scratch to the point that it no longer creates a problem. The gritty nature of the toothpaste creates the sanding effect. You should not use a gel-based toothpaste, because it lacks the properties to create the desired effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash any fingerprints or dust particles off the CD and dry it carefully with a cloth.

    • 2

Dab a little toothpaste onto the scratch. You only need enough to cover the scratch.

    • 3

Rub the toothpaste, with the cotton swab, into the scratch. Move the swab in small circles, from the center to the outside of the disc, without following the groove in the disc. This will prevent additional scratches from forming during the process.
