What Are the Sororities at Villanova University?

Villanova University is a private university located near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It's the oldest Catholic university in the state. The eight Greek society sororities play a considerable role in the social life of the school. The social organizations get their name from the Latin word soror, meaning sister. Sororities use two or three Greek letters to form their chapter's name.
  1. Alphas

    • The sorority Alpha Phi has collegiate and alumnae chapters all across the United States and Canada. It promotes the ideals of lifelong friendship and fraternity amongst its members. The Villanova University chapter maintains the philanthropic Alpha Phi Foundation and holds fundraisers throughout the year. The Villanova campus is home to the Zeta Tau Chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The Alphas host social functions including formals, mixers, cocktail parties, study sessions and various lunches and dinners.

    Deltas

    • The Delta Delta Delta sorority's name is signified by three triangles representing the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. The Delta Delta Deltas seek to promote character development and long-term bonds between its members. The sorority sisters endeavor to promote beneficial relationships between the chapters at various universities. The Tau Delta Eta Chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority stands for the principles of personal integrity, responsibility and intellectual honesty. The Deltas organize several collegiate and alumnae programs to promote intellectual motivation and community awareness.

    Kappas

    • The Kappa Delta sorority was founded by four friends on Oct. 23, 1897. In the early 21st century, the national organization of nearly 200,000 women comprises over 200 chartered chapters and nearly 500 alumnae associations across the country. Famous Kappa Deltas include Georgia O'Keefe and astronaut Bonnie Dunbar. Villanova's chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma supports the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with several fundraising events during the school year.

Pi Beta Phi and Chi Omega

    • The Pi Beta Phi sorority was founded by 12 students on April 28, 1867 at Monmouth College. It was called I. C. Sorosis and was the first national secret college society of women modeled after the men's fraternities of the time. Villanova's Pennsylvania Theta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi was started in 1989. The Chi Omega chapter at Villanova is part of the largest women's fraternal organization in the world with 300,000 initiates and 170 collegiate chapters.
