What does the Greek term BETA mean?

In Greek, the word βῆτα (bēta) means "beta". It's simply the name of the second letter in the Greek alphabet. It doesn't inherently have a broader meaning beyond that, unlike some other Greek letters that have evolved to represent concepts (like alpha and omega). However, its use in the context of software (beta version) is a derivative meaning.
