What is the role of despair in human life according to Wiesel?

In the context of Viktor Frankl's writings, and contrary to Elie Wiesel, Frankl argues that despair is both irrational and harmful due to the possibility of finding meaning in spite of dire circumstances. Frankl suggests finding deeper purposes for living or identifying values worth holding onto, even within suffering itself.

While acknowledging individual experiences like those outlined by Elie Wiesel are deeply unsettling, Frankl insists despair should not become the central response if finding meaning is still feasible. In this sense, while Frankl doesn't explicitly dismiss the notion of despair in human life, he presents an alternate philosophical understanding based on personal resilience.
