Drink 8 oz. of caffeinated tea or coffee for a temporary boost of energy. Green tea, black tea and mate all have caffeine in them. While you can consume energy drinks or soda, the sugar in these drinks will cause you to be even more tired once the caffeine and sugar effects wear off; tea, coffee and mate aren’t sugary by nature, making them a better choice.
Try a technique called the “Five More Rule.” Tell yourself you need to complete five more problems, read five more pages or write five more sentences. The technique gives you a short goal to work towards so you don’t have time to get sleepy.
Reward yourself after finishing a chapter, a specific number of problems or an essay page. The reward will give you an incentive to work faster, so you’ll get your schoolwork done with plenty of time to catch up on sleep.
Take a break. Sitting for too long when you’re tired can cause to be so comfortable that you start dozing off. Get up and do a few stretches or walk around the room for about five minutes every half hour. The movement will wake your body up.
