Brainstorm with friends who have strong leadership skills to form clubs around schools to help other students express their talents and interests. Choose the topics and areas to develop clubs based on the interests and talents of those who are willing to take on a leadership role in forming them. You could develop an art club, music club, science club or even a journalism club. Advertise the clubs around campus by displaying posters outlining the club details. Coordinate with the school administration to find classrooms and school areas that could be used for club meetings. The clubs you develop could help enrich the lives of all the students on the campus, for example, by developing the community college's first school newspaper.
Students can struggle with particular subjects in a community college the same way they do in a four-year school; however, there may not be the funding or the program in place to develop study groups. Choose students who excel in particular subjects to lead each study group in their area of strength. Speak with the teachers or department heads in each study-group subject and obtain practice materials and advice. Inform all teachers of the study groups and encourage them to distribute the information to their classes so any struggling students are able to participate.
Transferring to a four-year college or university to complete your bachelor's degree is a common goal for students at a community college. Form a support group to help students understand and execute the process of transferring. Host meetings that instruct students on the different applications and application deadlines for schools and how to fill out and submit their financial paperwork. Hold sessions to help students tackle their application essays and invite English teachers and students with strong writing skills to come in and edit the essays and give the students tips on improving them.
Form intramural sports teams for the school. A perk of going to a four-year school is that they typically have a variety of divisional sports to try out for. A community college may not have as wide a range of sports to choose from. Students who were athletes in high school will likely miss the experience of playing on a team. Organize some intramural teams in basketball, baseball, hockey, football or volleyball. This will help students continue with activities they enjoy and help keep them in shape if they hope on trying out for a team when they move on to a four-year college.
