What does Ivy League mean with respect to colleges?

"Ivy League" refers to a group of eight private universities in the northeastern United States. These schools are renowned for their academic excellence, selectivity, and prestige. They are:

* Brown University

* Columbia University

* Cornell University

* Dartmouth College

* Harvard University

* University of Pennsylvania

* Princeton University

* Yale University

While often used synonymously with "elite" or "prestigious" universities, it's important to note that other universities outside the Ivy League are also highly ranked and offer excellent education. The Ivy League designation is primarily historical and based on their long-standing athletic conference.
