Apply for the Pell Grant. This can be accomplished by filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA can be completed online or by mail. Find a link in Resources. If completed online, applicants will know immediately upon completion of the FAFSA how much Pell Grant money they are eligible for. Pell Grants are need based and take only income and assets into account when determining who qualifies for funds.
Apply for a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The United States Department of Health and Human Services offers a scholarship that does not need to be repaid for up to 220 Registered Nurse students each year. All tuition, book, and fees are paid for and a living stipend is provided. Applicants can apply online (find a link in References) and must have already completed their FAFSA.
Apply for a grant from your state's department of education. Most states offer grants to students who exhibit financial need. The amount of the grants and eligibility requirements vary from state to state. Contact your state's department of education for more information on how to apply for a grant from them.
Apply for grants from your school. Many nursing schools have money that can be provided to students to assist them in completing their studies in the form of a grant. Some grants are need based and others are merit based. Contact your school's financial aid department to learn more about what your school has to offer.
