Fill out and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can fill out the FAFSA form on the Federal Student Aid website. According to the state of Indiana website, IN.gov, the FAFSA is the core document necessary to apply for all types of student financial aid available through the state and federal governments, as well as the colleges and universities.
Visit the Grants & Scholarships section of the IN.gov website to review the list of available grants. Each grant has different application instructions. For example, the Frank O'Bannon Grant Program does not have a secondary application. The FAFSA is the only application needed to apply for that grant. The Twenty-first Century Scholars Program, however, requires a second application in addition to the FAFSA.
Review all of the criteria for applying for a grant, and pay special attention to the due date for each application. Though some grants may accept applications all year, others have a specific date for receiving the application. Follow the instructions for each grant carefully. Leaving out any information could prevent you from receiving money for college.
Write down the names and contact information for each grant application for your records. An organized reference of your grant applications is useful should you have any questions in the future.
