How to Retrieve My Transcript

After college when applying for jobs or preparing for continuing education, you will often be asked for a copy of your college transcript. Obtaining your transcript is not complicated, but will require some effort on your part and usually requires a fee to receive the transcript. There are several ways you can obtain your college transcript after you have graduated.

Instructions

Contact your college's alumni department to find the procedure for obtaining your transcript. The college will inform you of the procedure that must be followed. They will usually give you the option of ordering the transcript online or filling out a form and mailing it in to the college. You also may be able to go directly to your college and pick up your transcript.

If ordering a transcript online, fill out the online application on your college's transcript ordering webpage. You will be asked for your name, address, date of birth and year of graduation. You will be asked if your name has changed since you attended college. Be sure your application is complete, as this will speed the process for obtaining your transcript.

Pay for your transcript with a credit card or money order and the college will mail you your transcript within a couple days. If there are any holds on your college account for monies owed, you will need to clear these holds by paying the fees before you can receive your transcript.

Fill out the application your college sends to you or download an application if your college does not have an online application center for transcripts on their website. It is rare to not be able to order your transcript online, but some smaller colleges do not have the ability to do this. You will need to fill out the application, sign and date it and fax it or mail it back to your college.
