Peer-reviewed journal articles are journal articles that are scholarly in nature, and are usually published in academic journals. In order to create an APA style journal article citation, you must first type out the last name of the author of the article, a comma, their first initial and a period. Type the year the article was written in parentheses and a period. Type the title of the article with only the first word capitalized, followed name of the scholarly journal and its volume number, in italics. Next comes the issue number in parentheses, a comma, the page range for the article and a period. The final citation should look like this: "Jones, R. (2004) The psychological affect of summer camp on children. Children Today, 52(8), 9-19."
To cite a book in APA style, begin with the last name and first initial of the author,. Type the year the book was published in parentheses, followed by the title of the book in italics. As with journal articles, only the first letter of the first word should be capitalized. Add the city where the book was published, a comma, the abbreviation for the state and a semi-colon. End with the name of the publishing company. The final citation should look like this: "Johnson, M. (2006). Cabinetry for beginners. New York, NY: Pearson Custom Publishing."
Reference books are books like encyclopedias, dictionaries and almanacs which are used for reference. Citing a reference book in APA style again begins with the author's last name and first initial. Add the year the book was published in parentheses and a period, followed by the title of the topic article. Type the year the book was published in parentheses, and then add the title of the reference book, again only capitalizing the first word, in italics. End with the city where the book was published, the abbreviation for the state, and the name of the publishing company. The final citation should look like this: "Taylor, T. (2009). Marionette. (2009). Britannica encyclopedia. New York, NY: Pearson Custom Publishing."
The Reference page should always be placed at the end of the paper. It should have "References" centered at the top in a standard font. The references should follow, double spaced and in alphabetical order. A citation with more than one line should be indented six spaces on all lines except the first.
