Read and jot notes. Read the assigned chapter(s) before each class. Highlight or jot down important information. Write down questions you might have and be prepared to answer questions in class.
Pay attention in class. Sit as far to the front of the class as you can. Learn to write good notes in class. Ask the questions you had prepared if the instructor does not cover them during his lecture. Try not to miss classes.
Do your homework, regardless of whether it will be graded. For best results, do your homework within 24 hours after your class. Homework is designed to test your understanding of the material. When you have questions regarding the homework exercise, try to find the answers yourself by reading the textbook or looking up additional sources. This will help you develop problem-solving skills. If you have further questions, ask the instructor before the following class meeting.
Find real-life situations where you can apply what you've learned. If you are studying a language, find a native speaker to practice with. If it's science, try an experiment demonstrate what you've learned. When you connect book knowledge to real life, you will remember the experience and enjoy learning more.
