For an article from an online periodical: Write the last name of the author first followed by a comma and the first initial of the author's first name. Follow the author's name by a period. Write the year of publication in parentheses and a period outside the parentheses. Next, write the title of the article, capitalizing only the first letter of the first word and then a period at the end. Write in italics the title of the periodical then a comma and the volume number. Follow this by the issue number in parentheses if available and a period outside the parentheses. Finally, write the word "Retrieved" then the month, day and year followed by a comma and then write "from" and the website address where you found the article.

For an article from an online newspaper: Write the last name of the author then a comma and the first initial of the author's first name. Write the year then the month and day of publication in parentheses followed by a period outside the parentheses. Capitalize the first word in the article title. Next, write the title of the newspaper in italics and then a period. Write "Retrieved from" and then the website address.

For an electronic book: Write the last name of the author, then the first initial with a period at the end. In italics, write the name of the book. Only capitalize the first letter of the first word in the title. Finally, write "Retrieved from" and the website address.

For an online encyclopedia or dictionary: First, write the name of the entry (or keyword you looked up) and a period. Then write "In" followed by the name of the encyclopedia and a period. Finally, write "Retrieved," the date then a comma and "from" the website address.

For an online forum or discussion board: Write the author's name, last name first, then first initial. If a name is not available use the screen name. In parentheses, write the year then a comma followed by the month and day and a period outside the parentheses. Capitalize the first letter of the title of the discussion topic. Finally, write "Posted to" and the website address.
Example: webdt17 (2009, June 30). Sample discussion board title. Message posted to http://www.samplebibliography.com
For an email: Cite the email in your text in parentheses, using the first initial of the author's first name, then the last name and a comma. Then write "personal communication" and a comma, followed by the date and use a period outside the parentheses.
