Liberal arts graduates are always in demand. Upon graduation, liberal arts grads find a variety of careers available to them because of their wide-ranging knowledge base. These programs produce graduates who have excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities and group-process knowledge.
Consider choosing a minor. Even though a liberal arts education teaches you a variety of skills, some employers discount the degree because of its lack of focus. By declaring a minor in a specific area, you boost your chances of getting hired in that field. Suggested liberal arts minors include business, law, communication and research.
A liberal arts major prepares you for jobs in media, law, business and social work. Consider positions in publishing (newspaper editor or television news director) or marketing (media manager or copywriter), if you enjoy communication. If you are business minded, open a store to sell goods or services or work for someone who sells something you enjoy (entrepreneur or store manager). If you are interested in the law, pursue additional education to tackle the courtroom or law enforcement (attorney or police officer). Become an event planner. Event planners coordinate all aspects of large events (such as weddings and business conferences). Skills needed for event planning include time management, team coordination and communication.
Employers will continue to look for liberal arts majors. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, careers in communication (including graphic designers and technical writers) will be in high demand in the coming decade.
