Fitness and Nutrition Colleges

As more people begin to understand the impact fitness and nutrition have on their health, careers in the field will be in demand. Those who have attended a college offering fitness and nutrition training will have the knowledge and skills necessary to assist people on their health journey. Careers in the industry include dietetic technician, fitness trainer, sports medicine and fitness technician, personal training and health fitness management. Students can choose certificate programs or associate's-, bachelor's- or master's-level training. There are a variety of colleges offering training and education in fitness, nutrition and programs area available throughout the United States.
  1. Southwest

    • Those in the Southwest region of the United States can attend the Fitness Training program at Carrington College. Fitness training is offered at Carrington's Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque campuses. The program teaches a variety of fitness training methods and gives students the opportunity to learn about exercise physiology, body mechanics and nutrition. Students also receive lessons on the business aspects of fitness training and preparation for the certification tests necessary to become a certified personal trainer. Other colleges in the Southwest region offering fitness and nutrition programs include Eagle Gate College and Provo College in Utah and Brown Mackie College with locations throughout the area.

    New England

    • Students in New England can choose from the Branford Hall Career Institute in New York, offering education in personal fitness training or the Lincoln College of New England, located in Connecticut. Lincoln's Dietetic Technician associate's of applied science degree program provides students with 450 hours of supervised learning. The program prepares students for the exam to become a registered dietetic technician and enables them to work in the food service industry, clinical nutrition settings or community nutrition programs.

    Southeast

    • Those in the Southeast region of the United States can attend Keiser University's Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology program. Graduates of the Florida program earn an associate of science degree and are able to understand health risk factors, prevent injuries when exercising, apply basic biomechanical principles, and develop and monitor exercise sessions. Other fitness and nutrition colleges in the area include ATI Career Training Center, Remington College, Wright Career College and the Florida College of Natural Health.

    Midwest

    • Globe University in Minnesota offers three fitness degree programs including an associate in applied science in Health Fitness Specialist, a bachelor of science in Health Fitness Specialist and a master's degree in Health Fitness. Graduates of the programs will be qualified to work in a variety of settings including corporate wellness programs, health clubs, recreation departments, hospitals, fitness centers or private personal training. Other fitness and nutrition programs in the Midwest region include health fitness management and health fitness specialist at the Minnesota School of Business, and athletic training at the National American University.
