Cosmetology Schools or Universities

Cosmetology is a field that is on the rise in the United States. Earning a degree at a cosmetology school or university can prepare you for a number of jobs -- including stylist, esthetician or salon products sales representative. Programs are available at schools in cities across the country.

    • Paul Mitchell Schools offers cosmetology programs in 38 states across the U.S. The program teaches cutting, coloring, design, techniques, makeup, pedicuring, manicuring, fashion trends, facials and hairdressing. Classroom training is mixed with extensive hands-on training for a balanced education in cosmetology. Attending school full-time will allow you to complete schooling in 15 months, while if you attend part-time, it will take you around two years.

    Regency Beauty

    • Regency Beauty is an accredited school that offers classes in 22 states in the U.S. Full-time classes begin monthly from February to December. When you go full-time, you can finish the program in approximately a year. Part-time classes start six times a year at select campuses. Classes will teach you cutting, styling and coloring. After completion of the program, Regency offers career placement through Beauty Jobs where you will receive help finding a job in the state you choose. On average, a full-time stylist in the U.S. can earn between $30,000 and $40,000 annually. This is based on data received from various salons and also a 2007 job demand study conducted by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences.

    Marinello Schools of Beauty

    • Marinello Schools of Beauty have been teaching beauty for over 100 years in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Oregon. The accredited hair care program teaches hairstyling, coloring, texturing, cutting, skin care, nail care, makeup, salon management and state board training. Learning is done through some classroom instruction but is mostly through real life experience with clients. Placement assistance is available to help students find a job after they complete the program. Other programs available include skin and nail care, and massage therapy.

    Academy Di Capelli

    • Academy Di Capelli is an accredited full service beauty school that is L-Oreal certified and located in Wallingford, Connecticut. The program includes 1,500 course hours in subjects such as anatomy, sanitation and hygiene, hair care & treatment, manicure, styling and business & professional relations. Full-time classes begin in January, March, May, July, September and November. Students who go full-time and complete all the required classes can graduate in as little as 49 weeks. Part-time classes start in January, April, July and October.
